Risk Management Consideration for Bike and Walkathons
A municipality hosted a fundraiser where participants could walk, cycle, run or rollerblade a 22 kilometer course to raise money. The municipality took proper precautions including inspecting and closing the roads to ensure safety. During the event, a participant, who was rollerblading, hit a small stone, fell and injured themself. The case went to court and the municipality was found not to be responsible for the incident because it had duly inspected the road.
