Meet the Speakers

James Dakin, Senior Legal Counsel, Intact Insurance Company
Jim received a degree in Economics from the University of Guelph and studied overseas for one year in St. Petersburg, Russia before completing his law degree at the University of Western Ontario in London.

Jim has practiced law since 2005, and spent the majority of his career in private practice before accepting an in-house position with the Frank Cowan Company (Now Intact Public Entities). His practice areas include defending public entities in a variety of claims, including defamation, historical abuse and negligence. Jim has acted for a number of municipalities and Children’s Aid Societies throughout the province of Ontario.

Emily Lucier, BA, CIP, Claims Consultant, Intact Public Entities
Emily Lucier joined Intact Public Entities in 2011 bringing 15 years of claims handling experience. She graduated from the University of Toronto with a degree in Criminology and has obtained her CIP. At IPE she is a Claims Consultant who handles large complex matters with a focus on abuse and class actions. She is involved in various mentoring programs, assists in writing newsletters, has presented across the company regarding the handling of abuse claims including litigation strategies and damage assessments. Emily recognizes the important work that the CAS agencies bring to the community and that they are vulnerable when it comes to litigation. She is a firm believer and supporter of diversity, transparency, education, and communication. In her spare time, she enjoys hiking and camping with her family and large Bernese Mountain dog.
